Tailwind Electric is the licensed electrician (FL EC13016047) for Redington Shores, North Redington Beach and Redington Beach, with a person answering (727) 430-1764 24/7. We work out of our Palm Harbor shop on homes, docks and small businesses along this stretch of Gulf Boulevard.
The three Redingtons sit side by side, but each town runs its building permits differently, and many homes here back onto the water with a dock or boat lift. This page covers both: who permits your job, and what we check on dock and lift wiring. Our work carries a 100% parts and labor warranty: 10 years on panel replacements and 5 years on all other work.

Dock and boat lift wiring: our checklist for Redington homes
Water, metal and electricity at the same spot make dock wiring the most safety-critical circuit on a waterfront lot. The National Electrical Code has a separate article for docking facilities, Article 555, which includes ground-fault protection requirements. This is what we go through on every dock job.
| Check | What we look at | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Ground-fault protection | Whether the dock circuits have the ground-fault protection the code calls for, and whether it trips when tested. | Current leaking into the water around a dock is a shock hazard to swimmers. |
| Boat lift circuit | A circuit and breaker sized to the lift motor's nameplate, with a working switch or control. | An undersized circuit trips mid-lift or overheats. |
| Shut-off at the dock | That there is a clear way to cut power to the dock without going back to the main panel. | In an emergency on the dock, seconds count. |
| Wiring run from the house | Conduit, fittings and connections between the panel and the dock, especially where they cross the seawall. | Salt and tides wear out fittings and splices first. |
| Outlets and lights | Weather-rated covers, wet-location fixtures and corrosion on outlets and switches. | Corroded devices are the usual cause of nuisance trips and dead dock lights. |
| Permit | Which of the three towns permits the work, before we start. | Each Redington town has its own building department. |

Redington electrician questions
Who issues electrical permits in Redington Shores?
The Town of Redington Shores Building Department, at 17425 Gulf Blvd. It reviews plans, issues permits and inspects work, and next-day inspections must be called in by 3 p.m. Tailwind Electric files the permit for you.
Who handles building permits in North Redington Beach?
SafeBuilt. The Town of North Redington Beach contracts SafeBuilt to issue all building permits, conduct inspections and enforce building and zoning codes. Redington Beach uses Florida Municipal Services instead.
Does dock wiring need ground-fault protection?
Yes. The National Electrical Code's Article 555 covers docking facilities and includes ground-fault protection requirements. We test the protection on every dock job, because current in the water is a danger to anyone swimming nearby.
Can a homeowner pull a permit for electrical work in Florida?
Florida's owner-builder rule lets you do electrical work on your own home if it is not for sale or rent and you sign the permit in person. Check with your Redington town's building department, since each one handles permits its own way.
Can you come to the Redingtons for an emergency at night?
Yes. A person answers (727) 430-1764 around the clock. We make it safe first, then quote the permanent repair.
